In its session of 05.06.2020, the Senate of the UdS issued a “Regulation for the Implementation of the General Implementation Provisions at Saarland University” (Corona Regulation), in particular by laying down rules on free shooting and repeat exams.

The regulations only apply to Bachelor’s and Master’s courses of study, as well as to teacher training courses. Law, pharmacy, medicine and dentistry are therefore excluded.

– Update: The regulations have been extended for the summer term 2021!-

Free shot rule: Students who have not passed an exam can, upon application to the responsible Prüfungsausschuss, have it considered as not taken. This does not increase the number of failed attempts. Yet, it is only possible once per course. This applies to all exams of the summer semester 2020, the winter semester 2020/2021, the summer semester 2021 and exams that should actually have been written during the emergency period March-April, except for seminar papers and Ba/Ma/La theses as well as school internships and portfolios.

Repetition for the purpose of improving grades: Students can repeat an exam they have already passed once for the purpose of improving their grades until summer semester 2021 at the latest, with the better result being the one that counts. This applies to all examinations of the summer semester 2020 and exams that should have been written during the emergency period March-April. Exams of the winter semester 2020/2021 can be repeated until winter semester 2021/2022 at latest, and exams of the summer semester 2021 can be repeated until summer semester 2022 at latest. Hausarbeiten, seminar papers and Ba/Ma/La theses as well as school internships and portfolios are excluded.

We recommend that all students who do not pass an exam this semester submit an application to their examination board, even if this was only the first attempt. The applications should be accepted in most cases. Hence the appeal: Don’t let Corona prolong your studies because you cannot prepare properly for an exam. Learn as best you can, find learning partners through MS Teams and write these exams! To help you with this, we have prepared a sample application form.
