Ja, ABER nur noch bis zum 30.09.2019! Das Studierendenparlament hat in seiner Sitzung vom 16.04.19 beschlossen, die Strecke Saarhölzbach-Trier und zurück wieder aus dem Semesterticketvertrag zu lösen und das Ticket damit 9€ günstiger zu machen. Hinsichtlich der Busverbindungen gilt der bekannte Geltungsbereich. Eine Weiterfahrt mit den öffentlichen Nahverkehrsmitteln im Stadtgebiet Trier ist nicht vom Geltungsbereich des saarländischen Semestertickets umfasst, es muss beim VRT ein Ticket erworben werden.

The semester ticket is valid on all buses and local trains (RB, RE and Saarbahn) in Saarland. A detailed list of the transport companies involved can be found at the bottom of this page. It does not apply to long-distance trains (IC, EC, ICE). In the regional trains and buses you can travel to the Saarland border, with the Saarbahn even to Saarguemines. (However, if you want to take the train to Saarguemines, you have to buy a ticket from Hanweiler).

If you want to travel further distances in regional trains, you need a ticket from

• Trier (on the route Saarbrücken – Trier),
• Nohfelden (route Saarbrücken – Mainz),
• Homburg (route Saarbrücken – Kaiserslautern – Mannheim) or
• Einöd (route Saarbrücken – Pirmasens – Karlsruhe).

For journeys to France the semester ticket is valid up to the border, you can buy tickets from

• Forbach border (route Saarbrücken – Metz – Paris) or
• Solve the Hanweiler border (route Saarbrücken – Strassbourg).

Tickets for long-distance trains must always be purchased for the full route.

Students at universities within the area of the SaarVV have the possibility to purchase the Westpfalz add on for the Semesterticket. This is valid in conjunction with the semester ticket of Saarland University from Kaiserslautern. The costs for the Westpfalz add on are 182 Euro per semester. Further information can be obtained from VRN.

The ticket is always valid for six months: for the winter semester from 1 October to 31 March and for the summer semester from 1 April to 30 September.

The semester ticket is charged together with the semester fee.

No. It is only possible to take children up to the age of 6 free of charge with Deutsche Bahn and SaarVV.

If there is enough space (which the driver decides), you can take your bike with you free of charge Monday to Friday from 9 a.m. (on weekends all day).

No. The semester ticket is only valid for students of the affiliated universities and Saarland University.

Both the photo on the student identity card and the SaarVV imprint must be easily recognisable. If these are too worn out, the semester ticket can be rejected as a ticket.
